I have to give the heads up to a brilliant article written for Salon by my friend John Gorenfeld. In it, he points out that Jack Kelley's falsifications in USA Today about the Middle East were not only crazy, they were also potentially politically motivated. Definitely, his fabrications were used by extremists to justify stupid shit.

It's depressingly predictable that the pompous, cowboy American mindset would spin the recent Spanish election results as a "victory" for al-Qaeda, as even the Times did today. What Americans will probably never see is that the rest of the world views confrontation and war as risky politics, not a God-sanctioned endeavor. The Spanish people did not acquiesce to al-Qaeda, instead, the bombings reminded them of the intense hatred they had for Spain's alliance with the Bush Administration's reprehensible, anti-human policies of war and unilateralism. While an attack on the U.S. would undoubtedly provoke the opposite response, I'd like to think that Americans are finally getting tired of all this bullshit.

This hilarious report on human rights in the United States by the Chinese government is now an annual humor tradition ... The report cites "unrestrained evil social forces" running rampant in the U.S., which after seeing Rick Santorum talk about his opposition to gay marriage I can hardly disagree with.
